End matter (also called back matter) is the material appearing after the main text. Some of the most interesting changes in the new formats guidelines impact this material. Typically it consists of alphabetic references such as the glossary, gazetteer, handbook, bibliography, and index, but may include other material such as an appendix and acknowledgments. The End May Be Near instructs the reader how to identify the various types of end matter material and the application of the new guidelines in formatting it.
